YACHT AMERICA

The America's Cup has held a fascination for all, even those who do not follow sailing. We will discuss the prizes for this regatta at another posting. This trophy created by Pearpoint in the last quarter of the nineteenth century is an accurate rendition of the yacht America, after which the now famous races are named.
The yacht is free of the base which replicates the sea. It is placed in a manner to show the boat heeling in a breeze. It measures 24" x 12" x 20" tall.

SEAWANHAKA YACHT CLUB

A splendid heavy silver trophy awarded in 1880 for schooners, won by "Crusader" measuring 13" at the widest point.

AMERICAN YACHT CLUB

Both of these silver trophies were awarded for the annual cruise of the American Yacht Club. The shell in 1947 and the Revere Bowl in 1933 to "Idler" and measures 10 1/4" across.

LARCHMONT YACHT CLUB

Larchmont race week concludes this weekend. The silver platter was awarded as first prize in class D to "Elmina" in 1902. This style of raised lettering on silver is one of my favorites. It measures 12" x 10"
The pewter mug, a trophy for the 30 foot class in 1896 won by "Mai" again awarded on july 25th , suggesting that it was also a trophy for race week.
The silver flask a trap shooting trophy awarded in february 1922. I am not sure the shooting still takes place. In the winter months, platforms were erected in front of the club house and competitors would shoot over the water.

CHICAGO-MACKINAC RACE

The 101st Chicago-Mackinac race starts this weekend. I have raced 6 Chicago-Mackinac races; my first in 1974 on "Country Woman" with Deane Tank. I have always have a wonderful time in the Mid-west.
Here is the trophy for the 1921 overall winner "Intrepid" A boat that had a long and successful career.

NAUTICAL ANTIQUES

I have been collecting and selling nautical antiques for some time. I have sailed for more than fifty years, and lived through some of the events that shaped yachting as we know it today.
My specialty is yachting, a rather narrow slice of life. however one that I am seduced by.
